Biography
Lee Moua was born on April 10, 1940, in Ban Nathao, Laos to Nhia Yia Moua and Ci Lo and was the oldest of 6 siblings (3 brothers and 3 sisters). She married at the very young age of 15 years old to the late Colonel Tong Va Lo, who served in the Secret Guerrilla Unit (SGU) which supported the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Lee and Col. Tong Va had 6 children (3 sons and 3 daughters) but unfortunately, four of her children passed away prior to reaching adolescence except for her two sons, Blong (Txooj Tub) and Paul (Keeb Loos). In February 1971, Lee became a widow when her husband was killed in action during the war which devastated the entire Lo Family, relatives, friends, and the people who worked under his command. When the Vietnam War finally ended in 1975, Lee migrated to Thailand with her two sons and lived in several refugee camps (Nong Khai, Namphone, and Ban Vinai) for four years before coming to Goleta, CA in March of 1979.
In 1980, shortly after arriving in Goleta, she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized. In 1989, Lee moved with her family to Lompoc, CA. She continued with her commute to Goleta to work as an assembler for Joslyn Electronic for ten years before going on disability leave due to complications with a gallbladder surgery in July 1992. Since she was no longer employed, this gave her the opportunity to help raise all her grandchildren, assist with chores around the house and keep up with her garden during her leisure time.
For over thirty years, Lee remained healthy and enjoyed her life with her two sons and grandchildren until earlier this year when she started experiencing unexplainable weight loss and stomach pain. In late October, after meeting with several physicians and undergoing multiple evaluations, Lee was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with no options for treatment and was referred to hospice immediately after meeting with her Oncologist. The news was a shock for her and the family, however due to the severity of the diagnosis, she fought the battle with the strength she had left for about one month. On November 17, 2023, surrounded by her family, the Lord called her home to rest as all her earthly deeds had been completed.
Lee is survived by her two sons and two daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded by one of her granddaughters, Kathy Lo (Haum Siab) back in June of this year. Lee was a kind and loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend to many and will be missed dearly by all her family and friends. For now, it is not goodbye but “until we meet again” in heaven.
Matthew 7:13-14
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
